We’ve tried to climb this mountain before
It’s deep majestic beauty and irresistible allure
The trail urges us forward…to succeed, or maybe fail
Because failure is predestined if you never take the trail
The gently sloping passes welcome us and calm our fear
As we see our destination loom above us as we near
But then as we expected with a stumble, then a curse
We notice the path just took a turn for the worst
The breeze that we once welcomed, now cuts through us cold as ice
The land that once was vibrant is now barren, without life
And the mountain becomes steeper, and we find that we need rope
But still in our persistence we adjust, adapt, then cope
And forward we proceed, body and soul, heart and mind
And the mountain just rewards us with another steep incline
But always we keep going…we walk, we run…and sometimes crawl
Because as long as we move forward…method matters not at all
And we come to realization as we near our goal again
That maybe, just maybe…this time, we will win
